GAC Toyota Assumes Full Responsibility for Battery Fire Incidents

GAC Toyota has introduced a new policy holding the manufacturer fully responsible for battery fires originating from the battery system in its iA5 and iA5 3X electric vehicle models. The announcement was made during an iA5 user conference.

The new warranty policy covers incidents where battery fires are caused by quality issues, underbody scraping due to road contact, or collisions. GAC Toyota commits to providing direct compensation to affected owners, except in cases where the fire was caused by an external ignition source.

The policy applies to both new and existing owners of the iA5 and iA5 3X models and is valid for the lifetime of the vehicle. Furthermore, any battery malfunction will lead to a free replacement of all battery cells, irrespective of the vehicle's age, provided it has been in use for over 8 years. In addition to the warranty enhancements, GAC Toyota also outlined an Over-The-Air (OTA) update schedule for the iA5 model. This update is set to introduce new features, including a sentry mode, an escort mode, and improved maneuverability with three-point U-turn capabilities.
