Stardock has released the Galactic Civilizations IV: Federations & Empires expansion and a free Version 4.0 update for all game owners.
Game developer Stardock released its new expansion, Galactic Civilizations IV: Federations & Empires, on Thursday, July 30, 2026. The expansion introduces multiple new forms of government, each designed to alter the core gameplay experience. Coinciding with the expansion's launch, a free Version 4.0 update is now available to all owners of the base game.
The update also adds a map editor for players to create custom galactic maps. Furthermore, the game now features political parties, leader-run institutions, and an improved artificial intelligence. The diplomacy screen has also been redesigned.
Galactic Civilizations IV is a turn-based strategy game where players build and expand their own space empires. The addition of new government types and overhauled systems aims to increase the game's replayability and strategic depth.
