GalaxEye Secures ₹63.8 Crore Support for Multisensor Satellite Technology

Spacetech startup GalaxEye has secured ₹63.84 crore in financial support under the Centre’s Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund. The funding is allocated for the development of the company's next-generation multisensor satellite technology.

The agreement between the Technology Development Board (TDB) and the Bengaluru-based startup will provide the support through optionally convertible debentures. The project has a total approved cost of ₹247.69 crore and aims to develop an indigenous satellite capable of OptoSAR imaging at a resolution finer than 0.5 meters. The technology is expected to progress from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 to TRL 9, moving from a demonstrated prototype towards an operationally proven system.

GalaxEye's technology integrates synthetic aperture radar (SAR) with electro-optical (EO) imaging. This combination allows for high-resolution Earth observation regardless of weather and lighting conditions, as SAR can penetrate clouds and function without daylight, overcoming limitations of purely optical systems. Applications for the satellite include wide-area surveillance, detection of people and vehicles, and target classification.

This funding reflects TDB's commitment to fostering indigenous capabilities in emerging space technologies and supporting their commercialization. GalaxEye has previously raised ₹44.2 crore in a Series A round earlier this year and has secured nearly $27 million in total funding to date.
