Gambling Addiction Services Unite to Offer Christmas Support
GamCare and partners launch the TalkBanStop campaign, providing three free tools to assist those struggling with gambling problems during the Christmas period.

GamCare has partnered with other gambling addiction service providers to launch the TalkBanStop campaign. The initiative, running as a 12-month pilot, offers three free tools aimed at supporting recovery from gambling addiction, particularly during the Christmas season and amidst increased isolation and financial worries due to the pandemic.
The TalkBanStop initiative combines support from GamCare's National Gambling Helpline, Gamban blocking software, and the GAMSTOP self-exclusion service. This trio of tools is intended to help individuals cease gambling. Former footballer Michael Chopra, a recovering gambling addict, is supporting the campaign and features in a new film discussing his recovery journey with another former gambler.
Anna Hemmings, CEO of GamCare, highlighted that Christmas can be a challenging time for individuals struggling to stop gambling, with the pandemic exacerbating existing risks. "The TalkBanStop campaign sends a message of hope to those who are struggling with gambling but don’t know how to start their recovery journey," Hemmings stated, adding that the provision of free tools and support offers breathing space for reflection.
Neil McArthur, CEO of the Gambling Commission, welcomed the collaboration, noting it provides integrated and comprehensive services to consumers. The commission is also funding the blocking software pilot and evaluation to identify effective methods. The campaign aims to offer not only technical solutions but also emotional support to help gamblers focus on their recovery over the holiday period.
