The Gamescom Opening Night Live event, hosted by Geoff Keighley, has concluded, featuring significant announcements for the gaming industry. Arguably the most prominent reveal was a remastered version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt by CD Projekt Red, set for a September release. The show also premiered trailers for several other games, including Gears of War: E-Day, Capcom's new Mega Man sidescroller, and Final Fantasy VII Revelation.
The event took place ahead of a potentially busy fall season for game releases. With Grand Theft Auto VI slated for November 19th, many publishers are scheduling their major titles to avoid direct competition. This creates a packed release window for gamers, now further intensified by the Witcher 3 remaster.
Other notable game updates included the 1.0 launch of Path of Exile II on December 11th, and the confirmation of Mewgenics for PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S. Trailers were also shown for new installments in the Control series and Onimusha franchise, alongside the return of RollerCoaster Tycoon.
Further announcements covered upcoming titles such as the new game from the creator of Inscryption, a D&D game, and a PUBG update. GeForce Now will also gain support for the Steam Controller. Developers of The Witcher 4 are reportedly targeting a 2028 release.
