Garðabær Implements New Procedure for Construction Supervisor Changes
Garðabær's building authority has issued new guidelines and a form for changes in construction supervision. A new supervisor must confirm their responsibilities in writing.

The municipality of Garðabær in Iceland has introduced a new procedure and a dedicated form for managing changes in construction supervision during building projects. This process aims to ensure continuity and clear accountability when a construction supervisor leaves their role before a project's completion.
According to the new directive, if a construction supervisor ceases their oversight before the final inspection, they must officially notify the municipal building official. Upon receiving this notification, the previous supervisor's responsibility for completed work phases or properly documented segments concludes.
The property owner is then obligated to appoint a new construction supervisor. This new supervisor must formally confirm their acceptance of responsibility and commitment to oversee the remainder of the project. This confirmation involves completing and submitting a specific form to the municipality. The municipal building official will conduct a status assessment to define the areas of responsibility for both the outgoing and incoming supervisors.
The municipality emphasizes that construction activities must halt until a qualified and appointed supervisor is in place. The guidelines are based on relevant Icelandic building regulations and laws that mandate clear responsibility and oversight for all construction projects.
