Garena Relaunches Free Fire in India with New Usage Restrictions

After a multi-year ban, Garena has released a localized version of Free Fire for the Indian market, featuring mandatory playtime limits and spending caps.

28 October 2026

Garena has officially launched Free Fire India, marking the return of its popular battle royale title to the Indian market after being banned for over four years. The game is now available for download on both Android and iOS platforms.

The localized version introduces specific features intended to address regulatory concerns, including parental consent requirements, daily playtime limits, recurring rest reminders, and caps on in-game spending. Garena has confirmed that all user data is processed and stored on servers located within India, adhering to strict data localization mandates.

The initial ban in 2022 was issued by the Indian government on national security grounds. During the interim period, Garena continued to maintain operations via the unbanned Free Fire MAX, which will continue to run alongside the new localized release. The company stated that the development of this version involved direct cooperation with Indian government authorities to ensure compliance with local policies.
