Gartner: Half of Cybersecurity Leaders to Change Jobs by 2025

Research and advisory firm Gartner predicts that nearly half of cybersecurity leaders will change jobs by the end of 2025. This forecast highlights growing challenges within the industry, particularly related to work-related stress and insufficient understanding of security risks at the executive level.

A key driver for this projected turnover is the high psychological pressure faced by cybersecurity leaders, such as CISOs. The constant state of alert against emerging threats and a defensive posture contribute to significant stress and burnout risk. Gartner's research suggests that without changes in work culture and a greater focus on work-life balance, companies will struggle to remain competitive in attracting and retaining cybersecurity professionals.

Furthermore, the report indicates that understanding of cybersecurity among corporate leadership remains insufficient in many organizations. Businesses that do not consider security risk management critical to their business success are likely to experience higher staff turnover among their cybersecurity experts. Professionals tend to seek positions where they feel their work is meaningful and valued.

Gartner forecasts that by 2025, half of medium to large enterprises will implement formal insider risk management programs, a significant increase from the current rate of approximately 10 percent. Such programs aim to proactively identify and correct behavioral patterns that could pose risks to the company, offering guidance rather than just restrictions. Technical solutions like Enginsight can support IT administrators by automating processes and helping them focus on essential tasks.
