Gasum acquires full ownership of biogas plant in Helsingborg
Nordic energy company Gasum has acquired full ownership of a biogas production plant and its upgrading company in Helsingborg, Sweden, reinforcing its strategy to boost biogas production.

Gasum has finalized the acquisition of 100% of NSR Biogas AB and the remaining shares in Liquidgas Biofuels Genesis AB, marking full ownership of its biogas operations in Helsingborg, Sweden. This move aligns with the company's strategic plan to increase biogas production capacity.
The Helsingborg facility processes approximately 160,000 tons of household and industrial waste, along with manure, annually. The biogas produced is upgraded by Liquidgas Biofuels Genesis AB, with a maximum annual capacity of 80 gigawatt hours (GWh) of upgraded biogas, and subsequently sold by Gasum.
Gasum, which has been the majority owner of the upgrading operation since 2023, aims to strengthen its position in the Skåne region and optimize plant operations. The company is undertaking significant investments in expanding biogas production, particularly in Sweden, with new facilities under construction.
The use of biogas as a substitute for fossil fuels in logistics and industrial processes offers substantial emission reductions; its lifecycle emissions are, on average, 90% lower than conventional fuels. Gasum's objective is to supply 7 terawatt hours (TWh) of renewable gas to the Nordic market by 2027, projecting a significant annual reduction in carbon dioxide emissions for its customers.
