Gasum acquires majority stake in Swedish biogas upgrading company
Nordic energy company Gasum has acquired a two-thirds majority stake in the Swedish biogas upgrading firm Liquidgas Biofuel Genesis AB, expanding its biogas portfolio.

Nordic energy company Gasum has increased its biogas holdings by acquiring a two-thirds majority stake in the Swedish company Liquidgas Biofuel Genesis AB. The acquired company operates a biogas upgrading plant in Helsingborg, southern Sweden.
The plant's other owner, Nordvästra Skånes Renhållningsbolag AB (NSR), a regional waste management company, holds the remaining one-third share. NSR had previously leased the facility to Biond AB, which produces raw biogas from collected household and industrial waste.
The Helsingborg plant currently has an annual output of approximately 80 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of upgraded biogas. Gasum is also exploring the potential for on-site liquefaction of the gas in the future.
This acquisition aligns with Gasum's strategic goal to supply seven terawatt-hours (7 TWh) of renewable gas annually by 2027. Achieving this target is projected to reduce customer carbon dioxide emissions by 1.8 million tons per year, given that biogas has around 90% lower lifecycle emissions compared to fossil fuels.
