Gasum and NLF Partner to Promote Biogas Use in Norway
Energy company Gasum and the Norwegian Road Transport Association (NLF) have agreed to collaborate on promoting biogas as a green energy solution to replace fossil diesel in Norway's transport sector.

Energy company Gasum and the Norwegian Road Transport Association (NLF) have signed a cooperation agreement focused on advancing the use of biogas in Norway's green transition. The partnership, effective since January 2024, aims to position biogas as a key solution for replacing fossil diesel in the transportation sector.
Through the collaboration, NLF members and associated companies will gain insights into biogas benefits, with Gasum actively sharing its expertise. The agreement also involves advocating for improved regulatory frameworks for biogas in Norway and engaging with truck manufacturers. Currently, approximately 2,600 trucks in Norway operate on biogas.
Gasum is expanding its gas filling station infrastructure to support this transition. Recent developments include the launch of a mobile liquefied biogas rig in Asker and plans for new stations in Bærum by summer 2024 and Sandnes by late 2024. The company states that biogas can reduce life-cycle emissions by up to 90% compared to fossil fuels.
The company's strategic objective is to supply 7 TWh of renewable biogas annually to the Nordic market by 2027. This volume is projected to result in an annual reduction of 1.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
