Gasum commissions new LNG and bio-LNG bunker vessel for 2027 delivery
Energy company Gasum has contracted a new bunker vessel to be built in Turkey, aiming to expand its supply of LNG and bio-LNG in Northwestern Europe starting in 2027.

Gasum and Swedish shipping partner Sirius Shipping have commissioned a new bunker vessel to meet the growing demand for LNG and bio-LNG in the Northwestern European maritime market. The vessel, named Celsius, will be constructed by the RMK Marine shipyard in Istanbul and operated by a joint venture between the two firms.
This project builds on a decade-long partnership between Gasum and Sirius Shipping. The design of the new vessel incorporates operational data gathered from nearly 1,000 bunkering operations, resulting in improvements to fuel efficiency, cargo capacity, and tank insulation. A high-performance gas combustion unit will also be installed to increase the speed of customer vessel cool-down operations.
Gasum CEO Mika Wiljanen stated that the investment is intended to provide shipping companies with a viable pathway to reduce emissions as regulatory pressures in the industry tighten. As maritime operators look to decrease their carbon footprint, the transition to LNG and bio-LNG has become an increasingly favored strategy.
Scheduled for delivery in 2027, the vessel aligns with Gasum’s broader objective to supply 7 TWh of renewable gas annually. The company expects these efforts to contribute significantly to its customers’ emissions reduction targets by displacing traditional marine fuels with lower-carbon alternatives.
