Gasum Opens Norway's Largest Biogas Station in Bærum

Nordic energy company Gasum opened a biogas filling station west of Oslo in Bærum on October 15. The facility is currently the largest of its kind in Norway, significantly expanding the company's sustainable fuel infrastructure.

The new Skui station is strategically located along the E16 highway and offers both compressed and liquefied biogas to meet growing demand for sustainable fuels. It serves logistics companies in the region and facilitates long-haul transport between Oslo and Norway's west coast. Gasum states this is the seventh liquefied biogas filling station in Norway and the 50th in the Nordic region. The company plans further expansion with more stations between Oslo and Bergen in 2025.

Gasum collaborated with landowner Eiendomsspar and logistics firm Gunnar Knutsen to open the station. Gunnar Knutsen has been testing the facility since August, and it is now available to all users. According to Gasum, biogas use in transport reduces greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 90% compared to diesel, supporting Norway's goal to cut domestic carbon dioxide emissions by 55% by 2030.

The company aims to supply 7 terawatt-hours (TWh) of renewable gas annually to Nordic transport, industry, and maritime markets by 2027. This initiative is expected to reduce customer emissions by 1.8 million tons of carbon dioxide per year. Gasum also highlights that biogas improves local air quality by significantly lowering nitrogen oxide and sulfur emissions compared to traditional fuels.
