Gasum promotes biogas as renewable industrial fuel option

Helsinki – Energy company Gasum is emphasizing the potential of biogas as an industrial fuel. The company stresses that biogas is a fully renewable alternative to fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas.

The use of biogas in industry allows for significant emission cuts and promotes a circular economy by converting waste into energy. Gasum offers solutions to enable the effortless use of biogas, regardless of whether a customer has access to the gas grid.

Several industrial companies, including hygiene and health company Essity and sugar manufacturer Sucros, have already opted to use renewable biogas to reduce their emissions and achieve their sustainability targets. "Biogas can be used anywhere natural gas is an option. Both are methane – they are just produced differently. Biogas is also interchangeable with natural gas, which means the same infrastructure can be utilized," says Matti Ojanpää, Sales Manager at Gasum.

Gasum also clarifies that purchasing biogas will become easier with the EU's new Renewable Energy Directive (REDII). The directive standardizes the Guarantees of Origin system across the EU, simplifying the purchase of biogas from different member states. The company also provides solutions for customers off the gas grid, including deliveries of compressed biogas (CBG) and liquefied biogas (LBG) to customer terminals.
