Gasum selected as TOWII Renewables' partner for power balancing services

Energy company Gasum has secured a contract to provide balancing and market services for two new wind power projects developed by TOWII Renewables in Northern Ostrobothnia, Finland. The agreement encompasses balance responsibility, forecasting, intraday optimization, and participation in ancillary services from the initial energization of the projects.

The two wind farms, Kopsa III and Ketunperä, operated by TOWII Renewables, will comprise a total of 12 wind turbines with an aggregate capacity of approximately 74.4 MW. TOWII Renewables is a joint venture between Denmark's EWII energy group and Tokyo Gas, established in 2022 with the aim of developing renewable energy projects.

Gasum was selected following a competitive bidding process where TOWII Renewables evaluated not only commercial terms for balance responsibility but also Gasum's capabilities to support the projects in the evolving Finnish power market. Key factors in the decision included Gasum's established trading and optimization expertise, market access, and capacity for continuous operational development.

Gasum offers power market services to corporate customers, energy companies, and power producers. As a balance responsible party in the Finnish and Swedish electricity markets, Gasum grants clients access to physical power markets, including day-ahead and intraday markets. These services aid customers in enhancing operational reliability and managing short-term market exposure.
