Gedeon Richter Introduces Emergency Contraceptive Escapelle
Gedeon Richter Plc. has provided information regarding Escapelle® (levonorgestrel), a medication for emergency contraception.

Gedeon Richter Plc. has introduced Escapelle®, a medication intended for emergency contraception in women. The active ingredient is levonorgestrel, a synthetic form of progesterone.
Escapelle® is indicated for use within 72 hours following unprotected sexual intercourse or in cases of contraceptive method failure, such as condom rupture. Its primary mechanism of action involves inhibiting or delaying ovulation, thereby preventing fertilization. The medication is most effective when taken as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse, preferably within the first 12 hours.
The product is contraindicated for individuals under 16 years of age, those who are pregnant or suspect they are pregnant, or who have severe liver disease. Caution is advised for those with mild to moderate liver or biliary tract diseases, a history of ectopic pregnancy, or conditions affecting the gastrointestinal tract that impair absorption.
Emergency contraception is not a substitute for regular contraceptive methods, and its effectiveness can vary. If menstruation is delayed by more than five days or its character changes, pregnancy should be ruled out. The possibility of ectopic pregnancy should be considered if pregnancy occurs after using Escapelle®.
Gedeon Richter emphasizes that Escapelle® is for occasional use only. Regular contraceptive methods should be used for ongoing family planning. The company advises patients to adhere strictly to the medication's instructions and consult a healthcare professional if necessary.
