Gedeon Richter Plc. has launched Lindynette 20, a new combined oral contraceptive. The medication contains gestodene and ethinylestradiol as active ingredients and is intended for use as a contraceptive.
Lindynette 20 is classified as a low-dose, monophasic combined oral contraceptive (COC). Its contraceptive effect is achieved through a combination of mechanisms, including the suppression of ovulation, an increase in the viscosity of cervical mucus, and changes in the uterine lining that hinder the implantation of a fertilized egg. For women using COCs, menstrual cycles may become more regular, and menstrual bleeding can be reduced in volume and duration, potentially lowering the risk of iron-deficiency anemia.
The active ingredients, gestodene and ethinylestradiol, are rapidly and completely absorbed after oral administration. Both substances undergo metabolism, primarily in the liver, with varying elimination half-lives. They are excreted mainly as metabolites through the kidneys and intestines.
The use of Lindynette 20 is contraindicated in individuals with certain conditions. These include hypersensitivity to the active substances or any of the excipients. Significant contraindications also encompass current or past venous thromboembolism, such as deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, and arterial thromboembolism, including myocardial infarction or stroke. Multiple or severe risk factors for thromboembolism may also preclude its use.
