Hungarian pharmaceutical company Gedeon Richter Plc. has provided updated information regarding its Evra contraceptive patch. The company has released new instructions that offer detailed pharmacological and pharmacokinetic data for the product.
The Evra patch is a combined hormonal contraceptive that delivers norgelstromin and ethinylestradiol. According to the updated instructions, each patch releases 203 micrograms of norgelstromin and 33.5 micrograms of ethinylestradiol per day. The patch is designed to be worn for a seven-day period before replacement.
Pharmacokinetic details included in the instructions indicate that plasma concentrations of norgelstromin and ethinylestradiol reach steady-state levels approximately 48 hours after the patch is applied. These levels are maintained throughout the entire seven-day wear period.
The instructions also outline contraindications for the product, including a history of or predisposition to thrombosis, and potential risks associated with the estrogen-gestagen combination. Gedeon Richter notes that contraceptive efficacy may be maintained even if a patch change occurs later than scheduled within the seven-day cycle.
