Gedeon Richter Plc., a pharmaceutical company headquartered in Hungary, has announced details regarding its medication Kavinton Forte. The drug features vinpocetine as its active ingredient and is intended for the treatment of adult patients experiencing conditions associated with impaired blood circulation in the brain.
Kavinton Forte is indicated for symptomatic treatment of cerebrovascular disorders, including sequelae of ischemic stroke, vertebrobasilar insufficiency, vascular dementia, and atherosclerosis of cerebral arteries. It is also used to alleviate neurological and psychological symptoms resulting from compromised brain blood supply in cases of post-traumatic and hypertensive encephalopathy.
The active substance, vinpocetine, enhances cerebral metabolism by increasing glucose and oxygen uptake in the brain, thereby improving its resistance to hypoxia. It also provides neuroprotective effects and improves microcirculation.
The medication is contraindicated for pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as women of childbearing potential not using reliable contraception. It is also not recommended for individuals under 18 years of age. Caution is advised for patients with congenital long QT syndrome or those taking medications that may prolong the QT interval. Patients should inform their physician about all concomitant medications.
