Geely Vice President: Unified AI Standards Missing in Automotive Industry
Li Chuanhai, Vice President of Geely Auto Group, highlights the lack of uniform AI governance standards in the automotive sector. This increases costs and poses safety risks.
At the 2026 World New Energy Vehicle Conference (WNEVC) held in Haikou, Hainan, from September 22-24, Li Chuanhai, Vice President of Geely Auto Group and President of Geely Auto Research Institute, voiced concerns over the absence of unified AI governance standards within the automotive industry.
According to Li Chuanhai, while the application of artificial intelligence in the automotive field is accelerating, the lack of consistent standards across companies leads to incompatibility and inflated industry costs. Furthermore, this situation can introduce significant safety risks for vehicles.
"We sincerely suggest that the entire industry jointly promote standardized AI governance, so that technological innovation has rules and standards to follow," Li stated. He added that this is crucial not only for the healthy development of the industry but also as a key element for China's automotive sector to secure a stronger voice in global competition.
Li Chuanhai observed that new technologies, including electrification and intelligence, are reshaping the automotive industry and simultaneously creating an opportunity for the restructuring of global standards. He emphasized that China has accumulated comprehensive technical capabilities and industrial practices in areas such as battery safety, charging interfaces, functional safety, and data governance, positioning it to actively participate in, and even lead, global standardization efforts.
