Gelken Produces Bone Ash for Ceramic and Glass Industries

Chinese company Gelken has introduced its processed bone ash for industrial applications, focusing on the ceramics and glass sectors.

The material is primarily used in the production of high-grade bone china, according to company information. It also finds application in opal glass manufacturing, as a pigment stabilizer, polishing agent, and syrup clarifier. Furthermore, Gelken states the bone ash can be utilized in water purification processes.

The manufacturing process involves calcining animal bones at high temperatures. Raw bones are initially steamed under pressure to remove proteins, then dried. The de-proteinized bone blocks are subsequently fired in kilns at 1250-1300°C to create bone charcoal, ensuring the elimination of all bacteria. The resulting bone charcoal is then crushed and screened into various specifications.

Gelken specifies that Grade A bone ash, processed to 120 mesh, is intended for the ceramic industry, metallurgical demolding, and sewage purification. The company offers the product in different particle sizes, including 60-100 mesh, 0-3mm, and 2-8mm.
