Gemalto provides digital car key for Daimler's E-Class

Gemalto is providing its digital vehicle key technology for Daimler AG's new Mercedes-Benz E-Class range. This solution enables drivers to lock, unlock, and start their vehicles using an NFC-enabled smartphone.

Gemalto's Trusted Services Hub (TSH) facilitates the secure, over-the-air deployment of digital keys to any compatible phone. Once the digital key is downloaded to a secure element within the phone via Gemalto's TSH, drivers can use their smartphone to lock and unlock the car by placing it against the door handle. The engine can also be started with the phone placed in the dashboard's charging tray and pressing the start button.

Integrated as part of the 'Mercedes me connect' program, the digital vehicle key connects seamlessly with services catering to modern mobility and digital lifestyles. The system is designed to function even if the phone's battery is depleted, eliminating the need to carry a traditional key.
