General Motors updates Silverado and Sierra truck interfaces

General Motors (GM) is set to release updated versions of its Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks for the 2027 model year. A significant change involves a redesigned, more minimalist user interface for the vehicles' digital displays.

The automaker has focused on reducing visual clutter, opting for a black background that aims to improve readability in various lighting conditions, aided by local dimming technology. Notably, unlike GM's electric vehicles, these trucks will continue to offer full integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The instrument cluster will feature multiple display options. One configuration presents simple half-moon dials for speed and engine RPM. A configurable zone on the right side of the display can show audio information, trip data, or turn-by-turn navigation.

Additional modes include a driver assistance display, which uses green highlighting to indicate when the Super Cruise system is active and shows a representation of the vehicle's sensor data. Specific displays are also available for off-road driving, showing angles and differential settings, as well as a dedicated view for towing.
