Genesis GV90 Electric SUV Features Retractable Screen for Increased Display Area

Genesis's upcoming electric flagship SUV, the GV90, will feature a retractable infotainment screen that expands when the vehicle is parked. The system aims to enhance viewing experience for media consumption.

When the vehicle is stationary, a portion of the screen integrated into the dashboard rises to reveal an increased display area. In its normal state, a 23.6-inch wide OLED screen shows driving information and media content. After parking, the screen can ascend by 90mm, fully extending to a 24.6-inch display, which Genesis states increases the usable screen area by approximately 70 percent.

The fully deployed screen measures 584.1mm x 219mm with a resolution of 3840x1440. It switches to the Media Home interface for streaming services and live channels, supported by an optional 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. The GV90 also includes a 25-inch HUD to keep essential driving information within the driver's line of sight.

The screen's lifting mechanism utilizes brushless motors and rack-and-pinion systems, fixed to the front crossmember to mitigate vibrations. Genesis reports the mechanism has undergone over 100,000 cycle tests and operates with noise levels below 40dB across various temperatures.

The GV90's screen is designed to operate only when the vehicle is parked. This is to prevent driver distraction during operation and for safety reasons, as the extended screen could potentially interfere with the deployment of front airbags. If the vehicle begins to move while the screen is extended, it will automatically retract.
