Geotab data highlights variance in driver behavior across European cities

Telematics data released by Geotab reveals a wide disparity in driving safety metrics across European urban centers. The study indicates that vehicles in Paris record 1,191 harsh driving events—such as sudden braking or acceleration—per 1,000 trips, compared to just 225 in Berlin.

Madrid follows closely behind Paris with 1,088 events per 1,000 trips. The variance highlights how differences in urban infrastructure, traffic density, and congestion levels impact driver behavior and operational safety for freight transport.

Geotab utilizes connected vehicle data to provide these insights. By quantifying these metrics, the company aims to offer logistics operators and municipal planners the data necessary to improve fleet safety and reduce accidents in high-density urban environments.
