German Consumers Want AI Shopping But Demand Control
German consumers are interested in AI-driven commerce but emphasize the need for personal control and data security.

German consumers are showing interest in agentic commerce, where artificial intelligence (AI) assists with shopping, but they strongly emphasize the need for control and clarity in the process. A new study reveals that a majority of Germans are willing to use AI as a shopping assistant but express concerns regarding potential risks related to data security and the use of personal information.
The research indicates that while consumers see the potential of agentic commerce to enhance the shopping experience, they are also worried about who is actually making the purchases and who is responsible for the payment. The need for transparency and the ability to intervene in AI-driven decisions is paramount. According to Riverty's survey, 70 percent of respondents require the option to review and approve AI-initiated purchases before they are finally confirmed.
Agentic commerce is anticipated to reshape the e-commerce landscape by enabling more personalized and efficient shopping experiences. AI can analyze consumer preferences and purchase history, suggest products, and even make purchases automatically. However, this development necessitates a strong level of trust in the technology and its security measures.
Riverty highlights that building consumer trust is of utmost importance. The company suggests that providing clear processes and ensuring consumers feel in control are crucial. Riverty believes that balancing technological advancements with consumer needs will be key to the success of agentic commerce in Germany.
