German Entertainment Market: 111 Billion Euros Spent, Where is Growth Heading?

In 2024, Germans spent a total of 111.6 billion euros on entertainment and media. This positions Germany as the fifth-largest global market, trailing behind the United States, China, Japan, and the United Kingdom. The industry is projected to expand to 126.1 billion euros by 2029, with surprising drivers of growth.

Video streaming emerged as the fastest-growing segment in 2024, increasing by 18 percent. Advertising-funded models saw a significant surge of 37 percent. This trend is partly attributed to consumers seeking cost savings, opting for cheaper, ad-supported services amidst rising subscription prices. Platforms such as Netflix and Disney+ now offer advertising tiers.

The music market shows a different pattern. In 2025, German music sales reached 2.42 billion euros, with streaming accounting for 84.4 percent. Unlike video, ad-supported music services have a more limited role, as listeners generally find ad interruptions between songs more disruptive than pre-movie commercials.

Gaming represents another substantial pillar of Germany's entertainment industry. In 2025, the German games sector generated 9.4 billion euros in revenue, a four percent increase year-over-year. Online gaming services surpassed the one-billion-euro mark for the first time, doubling their value since 2019.

As consumer choices proliferate, so does the need for comparative platforms. Across streaming and gaming, demand is growing for transparent and informative services. Companies that provide users with factual information are more likely to foster long-term engagement.
