German Fiber Operator Liberty Networks Germany Ceases Operations

Liberty Networks Germany, a Germany-based fiber optic network operator, has announced the immediate cessation of its operations and has filed for insolvency. The company, which operated under the "Hello Fiber" brand, was established less than two years ago with the aim of expanding fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) services.

Company executives cited a challenging macroeconomic environment, including rising inflation, increased interest rates, and restricted access to capital, as primary reasons for the closure. Additionally, escalating construction costs due to high demand for building capacity and difficulties in securing municipal partnerships contributed to the decision.

Launched in September 2021, Liberty Networks Germany had initiated projects in several regions, notably in the Esslingen district of Baden-Württemberg, where it planned to connect over 15,300 households by 2024. Other planned developments in Bavaria and the Rems-Murr district of Baden-Württemberg will also not proceed.

Liberty Networks Germany is a joint venture between Liberty Global Ventures and French investment firm Infravia Capital Partners. Its parent company, Liberty Global, previously owned Unitymedia, Germany's largest cable operator, before its sale to Vodafone.
