German pharmacists call for revisions to national pharmacy reform

The Deutscher Apothekertag, held in Düsseldorf from September 16 to 18, 2025, brought together more than 300 delegates from 17 pharmacy chambers and 17 pharmacy associations. The gathering served as a platform for the profession to deliberate on its position within Germany’s scientific, economic, and political framework.

ABDA President Thomas Preis and Managing Director Dr. Sebastian Schmitz opened the conference by presenting reports on the state of the industry. Federal Minister of Health Nina Warken attended the event to address the delegates and engage in discussions regarding the government's controversial pharmacy reform plans. The dialogue highlighted growing friction between the Ministry of Health and industry stakeholders regarding regulatory changes.

On the final day of the congress, the assembly passed a resolution calling on the Ministry of Health to implement necessary improvements to its reform proposals. The delegates emphasized the urgency of addressing their concerns and requested a swifter realization of commitments outlined in the federal coalition agreement.
