German Pharmacists Commission joins global medication safety awareness week

The Drug Commission of German Pharmacists (AMK), operating under the umbrella of the German Association of Pharmacists (ABDA), will participate in the international #MedSafetyWeek campaign, scheduled for November 2–8, 2026. The initiative aims to increase awareness regarding the recognition and reporting of suspected adverse drug effects.

In its latest pharmaceutical safety bulletin, the AMK emphasizes that reports submitted by pharmacies are critical for national pharmacovigilance. Spontaneous reporting helps regulators identify previously unknown risks and refine existing knowledge about pharmaceutical safety, facilitating timely risk mitigation measures.

Throughout the campaign, the AMK is urging pharmacists to proactively document suspected adverse reactions. This push for data collection is intended to strengthen the overall monitoring system for pharmaceutical products, ensuring that patient safety data remains current and actionable.
