The visit focused on Bosch's use of artificial intelligence (AI) across its development, manufacturing, and product lines. This tour was part of the President's "Workshop of Change" event series, designed to highlight successful transformations.
Bosch has been researching AI applications since 2017, utilizing methods such as deep learning, natural language processing, and generative AI. The company states that AI is a key technology for developing efficient, safer, and more user-friendly products and services. Bosch CEO Stefan Hartung indicated that every Bosch product either contains AI or was created with its assistance.
During the visit, concrete examples of AI implementation were showcased. In electric motor development, AI accelerates optimization processes compared to traditional simulations. In manufacturing, AI-powered systems enhance the detection of defective components, reducing scrap. Generative AI is also being used to create synthetic data, shortening the deployment time for new inspection systems.
For autonomous driving, AI improves the fusion and interpretation of data from sensors like cameras and radar. Bosch's Power Tools division is applying AI in its wall scanners to better detect electrical cables and voids. President Steinmeier concluded that artificial intelligence will bring significant changes to businesses and the economy.
