German Tea Association Releases 2025 Tea Report

The German Tea & Herbal Infusions Association (Deutscher Tee & Kräutertee Verband e.V.) has released its 2025 Tea Report, indicating a resilient German tea market despite inflationary pressures. In 2024, Germans consumed nearly 47 billion cups of tea, herbal, and fruit infusions, with sales seeing an increase and consumption remaining largely stable compared to the previous year.

The report highlights consumers' sustained interest in the diverse range of available teas. Green teas, such as matcha, saw a notable rise in popularity among younger, health-conscious, and trend-aware consumers. An increase in visits to specialized tea shops also suggests a growing appreciation for quality and expertise.

Demand for innovative products, including new herbal and fruit blends, as well as cold brew and functional teas, remained strong. The share of organic teas in the market experienced significant growth, reaching 17.7 percent, an increase of two percentage points. This signifies a clear shift towards healthier and more sustainable options.

Frank Schübel, Chairman of the Deutscher Tee & Kräutertee Verband, stated that German teas are recognized for their reliable quality and appeal to consumers through innovative offerings. He anticipates a positive outlook for the tea industry, supported by the trend towards healthy, plant-based diets. The association expects the diversity and quality of its products to continue attracting consumers.
