German Training Provider Offers Paid Educational Leave Using Open-World Games
German training provider Dein Bildungsurlaub has introduced a course centered on open-world gaming that qualifies as state-recognized paid educational leave.

Dein Bildungsurlaub, a German training organization, has launched a three-day professional development course that utilizes major open-world video games as academic subjects. The program, which aligns with Germany’s 'Bildungsurlaub' system, allows employees to take paid leave from their jobs to study the narrative and technical mechanics of titles such as 'GTA 6' or 'Cyberpunk 2077'.
Unlike recreational gaming, the curriculum focuses on critical analysis, brand identity, and storytelling techniques. Participants are required to evaluate game design and discuss the integration of AI tools within the development cycle. According to the provider, the course aims to develop competencies relevant to modern professional environments.
CEO Carlo Drechsel stated that participation is monitored, and attendees must document their findings and collaborate in group sessions to earn a certificate of completion. The course, priced at 120 euros, excludes the cost of the software itself. Due to high interest, the initial sessions have reached full capacity, with further classes currently sold out.
