German Transport Minister Hopes for EU Approval of Tesla's FSD System
German Federal Minister of Transport Volker Wissing has expressed his hope for the approval of Tesla's FSD (Supervised) driver-assistance system across the European Union. He sees value in a unified EU approval process for such systems.
Germany's Federal Minister of Transport, Volker Wissing, has stated his desire for Tesla's FSD (Supervised) driver-assistance system to gain approval throughout the European Union. Wissing suggested that a unified EU approach to approving similar systems would be beneficial.
The minister acknowledged that the approval process for Tesla's system involves numerous technical issues yet to be resolved, including the delineation of responsibilities. However, he emphasized that facilitating the implementation of innovations is his primary objective.
Wissing indicated that the FSD (Supervised) system has the potential to enhance road safety in Germany. He voiced his expectation for the system to be deployed in Europe in the near future.
Tesla had previously stated in April that FSD (Supervised) would be approved across the EU within the coming months. The system aims to significantly reduce the need for drivers to actively control the vehicle. It is important to note, however, that FSD (Supervised) is classified as a Level 2 driver-assistance system, requiring the driver to remain ready to take over steering at all times.
