Germany Orders 200 Puma Armoured Fighting Vehicles

Germany is significantly expanding the Bundeswehr's fleet of Puma infantry fighting vehicles. The joint venture PSM (Projekt System & Management GmbH), formed by Rheinmetall and KNDS Deutschland, has secured a contract to deliver 200 Puma IFVs.

The agreement, set to take legal effect in January 2026, substantially increases an earlier framework contract that initially included 50 vehicles. The total gross value of this procurement amounts to approximately €4.2 billion, with the contract split evenly between Rheinmetall and KNDS. Deliveries of the first vehicles are scheduled to commence in mid-2028.

The order also encompasses the procurement of associated protection modules and storage containers. Furthermore, a contract amendment for the S2 construction status is anticipated by mid-2026, aiming to enhance capabilities, including anti-drone defence. Puma IFV serves as the primary weapon system for the German armoured infantry and is presented as one of the world's most potent and modern systems in its class. It can accommodate a crew of nine and a squad of six soldiers, featuring advanced protection and networked operational capabilities.
