Germany Remains Strong UN Supporter After Security Council Bid Fails

Berlin – The CDU/CSU parliamentary group has stated that Germany remains a steadfast supporter of the United Nations, even after its unsuccessful bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council. Jürgen Hardt, the coalition's spokesperson for foreign affairs, expressed disappointment with the election outcome but emphasized Germany's continued dedication to the UN's objectives.

Hardt indicated that Germany's core values of respect, justice, and peace, which were central to its candidacy, remain important regardless of the election result. He confirmed that Germany will actively support Austria and Portugal in their work within the Security Council, aiming to ensure a unified and effective European voice in international decision-making.

The foreign policy spokesperson also highlighted the need for earlier coordination among European nations in future candidacies to avoid competing bids and strengthen the EU's collective influence. He stressed that in the current geopolitical climate, particularly due to Russia's actions in Ukraine, neutrality within the Security Council is not an option.

This renewed commitment underscores Germany's ongoing role in international diplomacy and its dedication to promoting multilateralism and global stability, in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter.
