Getriebebau NORD's LogiDrive improves logistics center efficiency
Getriebebau NORD's LogiDrive system can increase the efficiency of drive solutions for parcel distribution centers by up to 50 percent. The new solutions reduce energy consumption and service costs.

German manufacturer Getriebebau NORD GmbH & Co. KG has introduced its LogiDrive drive system, reportedly capable of improving the efficiency of parcel distribution centers by up to 50 percent. The system combines highly efficient IE4 and IE5+ synchronous motors with decentralized frequency inverters and efficient gear units from NORD's modular system.
The LogiDrive aims to balance energy efficiency with a minimal number of drive versions, thereby reducing investment, operating, and maintenance costs. For instance, in parcel distribution centers where 4 kW motors are typically installed, the actual power demand averages only 1.1 kW and peaks at 1.9 kW. This often leads to low utilization rates and high energy consumption with conventional asynchronous motors.
According to NORD, employing the LogiDrive system, even with smaller 2.2 kW motor ratings, can boost motor utilization by up to 50 percent. Standardization, high efficiency, and leveraging the motor's overload capacity are credited with reducing overall energy consumption and service costs.
These improvements are intended to lower the total cost of ownership (TCO) for parcel distribution facilities. The development of the LogiDrive system aligns with the logistics industry's focus on enhancing operational efficiency and reducing environmental impact.
