Gigabyte provides server infrastructure for university teams at ISC 2019

During the ISC 2019 conference held in Frankfurt, four university teams utilized Gigabyte server infrastructure to compete in the Student Cluster Competition (SCC). The event challenges teams to design and build high-performance computing (HPC) clusters capable of executing standard benchmarks while remaining under a strict 3000-watt power consumption limit.

The teams leveraged Gigabyte’s range of architectures, which included platforms utilizing Intel Xeon, AMD EPYC, and ARM-based Marvell ThunderX2 processors. The RACKlette team from ETH Zürich, which relied on Gigabyte hardware, achieved a third-place finish and secured the highest score in the LINPACK benchmark test.

Other participants represented institutions in Estonia, Taiwan, and Spain. By providing the underlying hardware, Gigabyte enabled these teams to experiment with diverse system configurations, highlighting the vendor’s role in supporting academic efforts in high-performance computing and real-world system optimization.
