Conductor Gina Hazell will lead the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra's December concert, "New Voices." She brings experience across symphonic, operatic, and choral repertoire.

The Sheffield Chamber Orchestra has announced the appointment of conductor Gina Hazell as Guest Conductor for its upcoming "New Voices" concert on Saturday, December 5, 2026. Hazell, originally from London, brings experience across symphonic, operatic, and choral repertoire to the Sheffield performance.
Hazell began her musical career as a saxophonist before developing her conducting skills at the University of Manchester. She has since received mentoring from leading conductors and was selected for the Royal Academy of Music's Glover-Edwards Conducting Programme. Her recent conducting work includes serving as Musical Director for the Hale Light Orchestra and Guest Assistant Conductor with Stockport Symphony Orchestra.
The concert program features Felix Mendelssohn's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" Overture, Antonín Dvořák's "Czech Suite" in D major, George Frideric Handel's "Concerto Grosso" in B-flat major, and Louise Farrenc's "Symphony No. 1" in C minor. The orchestra stated the program aims to combine well-known masterpieces with works ripe for rediscovery.
Julie Ryan, Chair of the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra, said Hazell represents the new generation of musical leadership and that the orchestra looks forward to her fresh perspective. The concert will take place at All Saints Church Ecclesall.
