GKN Aerospace Expands Electrical Wiring Systems Capacity in Mexico

GKN Aerospace has expanded its operations at its Chihuahua, Mexico manufacturing site with the addition of a new building. This move increases the company's capacity for producing Electrical Wiring Interconnection Systems (EWIS) and aerostructures in the region.

The new facility becomes operational following a significant expansion in July 2024, which doubled the site's manufacturing area to 160,000 square feet. The added space is intended to support the continued growth of EWIS activities and meet increasing demand from North American aerospace customers.

The Chihuahua plant already combines expertise in composite and metal structures. The expanded footprint allows for further integration of advanced electrical systems with existing aerostructures production. The company states this reinforces Chihuahua's role as a multi-technology aerospace manufacturing hub, supporting both defense and commercial aviation technologies.

Enrique Alatorre, Senior Vice President EWIS at GKN Aerospace, commented that the latest expansion marks an important step in developing the company's Mexican operations. He highlighted that by integrating electrical systems with aerostructures production, the company can offer integrated solutions directly to its North American clients. Alatorre added that the investment reflects confidence in Chihuahua's workforce, infrastructure, and strategic position to support future sustainable aviation.

The site development is supported by the local government and builds on the over 200 skilled engineering, specialized process, and production jobs associated with the 2024 expansion. The new capacity aims to optimize delivery timelines for key Tier-1 and civil aviation programs, including existing partnerships with Gulfstream, Airbus, and Honda Aircraft.
