Glen Cantrell to publish memoir on small-town civic leadership
Author Glen Cantrell details his year as an unpaid Chamber of Commerce president in a Sierra Nevada foothills town, exploring the mechanics of community volunteerism.
More Taste Than Fortune Books is scheduled to release a new memoir by Glen Cantrell on November 10, 2026. The book chronicles the author’s experience serving a one-year, unpaid term as president of a Chamber of Commerce in a Sierra Nevada foothills community.
The narrative focuses on the reliance of small towns on volunteer labor and the challenges inherent in maintaining local civic organizations. Cantrell’s account examines the logistics of community management when formal infrastructure and paid staffing are absent.
This publication adds to a niche market of literature focused on the sociological dynamics of rural and small-town American life. The book serves as a case study for the persistence of local institutions driven primarily by citizen participation.
