Glenmorangie Releases Oldest Whisky at 50 Years
Glenmorangie has launched its oldest whisky to date, the 50 Years Old. A limited release of 149 bottles, the whisky originates from distillations in the 1970s.

Glenmorangie, the Scotch whisky producer owned by LVMH, has released its oldest expression, Glenmorangie 50 Years Old. The limited edition comprises 149 bottles derived from spirit distilled in the 1970s, when the distillery still used its own floor maltings.
Master Distiller Bill Lumsden selected the whisky for bottling after overseeing its maturation for decades. He had originally set aside a portion of the casks in 1995, recognizing their potential for extended aging. In 1999, he consolidated whisky from various casks and transferred it to a former bourbon cask for a final 25 years of maturation.
The resulting whisky offers Glenmorangie's characteristic elegance enhanced by the depth gained from fifty years of aging. The nose is noted for baked orange, raisins, and nutmeg, while the palate presents flavors of caramel, Assam tea, clove, and oak tannins.
Each of the 149 bottles is presented in a bespoke porcelain case created in collaboration with American ceramic artist Peter Pincus. Pincus developed a unique design and a palette of 50 pigments for each case, creating a piece of art intended to complement the rare whisky. When assembled, the 149 cases form a continuous composition titled "Together in Spirit."
