The latest WHO global status report highlights the compounding nature of cancer as both a health crisis and a socioeconomic burden. Findings indicate that nearly half of patients encounter significant financial difficulties following a diagnosis, while a majority experience profound psychological strain.

Regional disparities remain a core issue. While Europe accounts for 21% of global cases despite holding only 9% of the world's population, nations in Africa and Asia face disproportionately high mortality rates. Globally, cancer remains the second-leading cause of death, claiming approximately 10 million lives annually.

However, public health interventions have shown success. Declining tobacco use, improved sanitation, and infection control have helped curb specific cancer types. Furthermore, 82% of countries now have national cancer control plans in place, compared to just 50% in 2010, suggesting a stronger political commitment to early detection and care.
