The global consumer confidence index, as measured by Ipsos, rose to 47.2 points in May 2023, an increase of one point from the previous month. This marks the highest level recorded in 16 months, reflecting an overall improvement in consumer sentiment across 29 surveyed economies. Ten countries showed significant gains in sentiment, while only two experienced notable declines.

The sub-indices tracking consumers' views on the current economic situation, investment climate, and job market all saw gains of at least one point. The index measuring expectations for future economic conditions also improved, rising by over half a point.

Several European countries, including Poland, France, Great Britain, and the Netherlands, registered increases of at least two points in their national indices. Turkey's consumer confidence reached its highest point since August 2019, and sentiment in Israel rebounded after a previous month's decline.

Conversely, consumer sentiment saw significant decreases in Brazil and Colombia. Indonesia maintained the highest national index score globally with 64.5 points.
