Global M&A Value Rises as Megadeals Return, but Recovery Remains Narrow
Global M&A value increased 15% in the first eight months of 2026, with gains concentrated at the top of the market, according to BCG.

The value of global mergers and acquisitions (M&A) rose by 15% during the first eight months of 2026, a report by Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has found. However, the growth was concentrated among the largest transactions, indicating a recovery that is not broadly distributed.
The number of megadeals, defined as transactions valued at $10 billion or more, climbed to 37 during the January to August period. This represents a significant increase from the 24 megadeals recorded in the same period a year earlier, and surpasses the previous record of 32 set in 2021.
The resurgence of megadeals suggests that larger corporations are becoming more active in the M&A landscape. These large-scale transactions can significantly reshape industry structures and competitive dynamics.
However, the report highlights that the recovery has remained narrow. This implies that activity among smaller companies or in the form of smaller transactions has not seen a comparable increase. Such a trend could point to caution or challenges in financing for smaller deals.
BCG's analysis of M&A activity during the specified period indicates that while high-value deals are returning, the overall market recovery may still be fragile. Future trends will likely depend on broader economic conditions and investor confidence.
