Global PC shipments decreased by 4.9% in the second quarter of 2026, totaling 68.2 million units and marking an end to nine consecutive quarters of growth, according to market research firm IDC. The decline follows a period of growth but is influenced by supply chain constraints.

IDC attributed the market pressure to shortages and price increases in DRAM and NAND memory chips. These factors reportedly dampened consumer demand for upgrades. The firm noted a divergence where sales volumes declined faster than revenue, as manufacturers implemented price hikes more quickly than demand fell.

Among the top five vendors, Lenovo, HP, and Dell experienced shipment declines. Lenovo shipped 16.6 million units, down 2.1% year-over-year. HP saw a 9.0% decrease, shipping 13 million units, while Dell's shipments fell 5.0% to 9.3 million units.

Apple stood out with a 10.1% increase in Mac shipments, reaching 6.7 million units. This growth boosted Apple's market share to 9.9% from 8.5% in the same quarter of the previous year, making it the fastest-growing vendor among the top five. Asus shipments remained flat at 5 million units.

Looking ahead, IDC anticipates a further slowdown in PC market growth in the latter half of 2026, with potential for increased pricing and inventory concerns in 2027 due to the weaker macroeconomic environment.
