Global POS Device Shipments to Grow 1% in 2025, Android Share Nears 50%
Global POS device shipments are projected to increase by only 1% in 2025, hindered by rising memory prices and economic pressures. Android-based devices currently hold nearly 48% of the market and are expected to dominate by 2032.

Global shipments of Point of Sale (POS) devices are expected to see minimal growth of just 1% in 2025, according to a new report. This slowdown is attributed to rising memory chip costs and broader macroeconomic challenges impacting the sector.
Despite the overall modest growth forecast, Android-based POS terminals are rapidly gaining ground. They currently represent approximately 48% of global shipments and are projected to capture 70% of the market by 2032. This shift is driven by Android's open ecosystem, enabling software-defined, cloud-connected solutions and faster innovation cycles.
The report highlights that Android's flexibility supports a range of value-added services, transforming POS devices into comprehensive business management platforms. Features such as inventory management, loyalty programs, customer analytics, and seamless integration with digital wallets and QR code payments enhance operational efficiency.
While memory price increases may pose short-term cost pressures for Android POS devices, their long-term adoption is expected to remain strong. Businesses increasingly prioritize software capabilities, cloud integration, and AI services, factors that favor the Android platform. The Asia-Pacific region, particularly China, India, and Southeast Asian countries, is leading the adoption of Android POS terminals, supported by strong local manufacturers.
