Global Smartphone Production Down 8% in Q2 2026, Samsung Leads

Global smartphone production decreased by 8% in the second quarter of 2026, reaching 275 million units, according to TrendForce. The decline was less severe than initially anticipated, attributed to consumers purchasing devices ahead of schedule and manufacturers replenishing production plans.

Following these results, TrendForce has revised its full-year global smartphone production forecast upwards by 20 million units, from 1.05 billion to 1.07 billion units. This adjustment narrows the projected annual decline from 16% to 14%.

Samsung led the market in Q2 2026, producing approximately 62 million smartphones, a 7% increase year-over-year. The company benefited from a later launch of its flagship models and increased the use of ODM production for mid- and low-end devices. Apple followed in second place with around 52 million units, marking a 14% year-over-year increase, influenced by the pricing strategy of the iPhone 17 series.

OPPO, Xiaomi, and vivo ranked third through fifth, producing approximately 30 million, 29 million, and 21 million units, respectively. These manufacturers are reportedly focusing on maintaining market share and prioritizing profitability.
