A global survey conducted by Ipsos indicates a moderate level of interest in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, with an average of 46% of respondents in 28 countries expressing interest. This figure aligns with the public engagement observed prior to the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.

Interest varies considerably by country. While 84% in China reported interest, figures were substantially lower elsewhere. India showed 70% interest, followed by South Africa at 62%. Many European and North American nations saw interest levels below 40%.

The survey also identified popular sports. Figure skating emerged as the most followed sport globally with 27% of mentions, demonstrating higher interest among women than men. Ice hockey and speed skating were also popular choices. Younger demographics indicated a preference for ice hockey, while older generations showed more interest in ski jumping.

Furthermore, 52% of global respondents believe the Olympics should proceed even if the pandemic is not fully contained. Additionally, 55% support athletes taking a stand on social or political issues during the games. Knowledge regarding the disciplines featured in the Paralympics appears to be limited among respondents.
