GLP-1 Drug Boom Alters US Workplace Dynamics
The adoption of weight-loss drugs in the U.S. has surged, with 15 percent of Americans reporting past use, according to a new Gallup report. This rise is impacting workplace dynamics and coinciding with a drop in obesity rates.

The widespread adoption of GLP-1 weight-loss medications in the United States is having a noticeable impact on workplace dynamics, according to recent findings from Gallup. The survey reveals that 15 percent of Americans have used these drugs for weight loss at some point.
Consumption of these medications has seen a significant increase, rising to 11 percent this year from just 3 percent in 2024. Factors contributing to this surge include reduced prices and improved accessibility through telehealth services.
Concurrently, the U.S. obesity rate has decreased to 36.4 percent, down from a high of 39.9 percent in 2022. Dan Witters, research director at the Gallup National Health and Well-Being Index, suggested that weight-loss drugs are likely contributing to this public health trend.
"The growing popularity of GLP-1 medications continues to potentially point to broader health benefits for American adults as obesity levels curtail and the diabetes rate levels off after years of increases," Witters stated. The survey polled over 5,000 adults nationwide between late May and early June.
